Nadal, by Wertheim
John Wertheim, a journalist I actually admire and can name because I read his columns almost weekly, throws down the gauntlet for Sportsman of the Year with Rafael Nadal. I can’t help but agree. Nadal is awesome: a true sportsman and not likely to throw a tantrum, always up for a fight, gracious, generous to fans, humble, and an all out knuckleball of a tennis player. Ok, he’s lousy with a joke but who cares! Watch the opening toro scramble after the coin toss during the Wimbledon final and there you have it, charisma in pure animal elegance. Having had to deal with ire from most of my friends for supporting him rather than the dapper Federer, it is with relief that I read this column. Vamos Rafa!
